Every year the Welsh Traditional Karate Federation (WTKF) holds a young persons
championship to celebrate the memory of its late Chairman Pete Hughes. The
event is supported by many local businesses as well as individuals who recognise

the value of traditional karate in helping young people develop. This year local
craftsman Dylan Cadwaladr Parry decided to donate a unique action sculpture for
auction to support the competition. Dylan said, “Watching my son and daughter

over the years progress to be senior grades in the WTKF, I wanted something that
would capture both the tough training and the fiery spirit you need in the WTKF”

The Dragon was auctioned off on the WTKF’s Facebook page and was ultimately
won by Dr Rob Perry. Dr Perry is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Ysbyty

Gwynedd, Bangor as well as a WTKF black belt.

WTKF Chairman Mr Alun Mowll said: "The Federation is run by dedicated talented
volunteers who wish to promote worthwhile activities, lifelong skills and values to
the young people in our community. We believe that by volunteering our time and

efforts we can improve youngsters’ lives and also help make them prepared for
their role as responsible caring adults of the future”

This year’s Championships will be held at Arfon Leisure centre on May 16th. (Free
entry to WTKF competitors and all spectators). If you would like to be part of the

WTKF family find us on Facebook or visit www.karatecymru.com
